With passion, awareness and Authenticity

In April I had the opportunity to spend a whole day with Rosa and Antonio, brother and sister that 2015 started renewing and replanting their family’s 17h with Catarratto, Zibibbo together with older grapes, Pinot grigio, Chardonnay, Syrah and Merlot, planted in the early ’70.

The farm has been in their family for more than 6 generations, but only recently they decided to also start producing the wines, not only grow the grapes.
Their aim was to, in respect for the nature and in consideration for future generations, do a unsoiled agriculture, healthy, without compromises. The process is slow and they had to wait until 2018 before they could present their first “clean” harvest for their biodynamic wines.

During these five years since then they have improved the vinification, especially of their wines made of Pinot grigio. Despite the deep color, a result of 6 months maceration on skins in amphora, there wine made of Catarratto has almost no tannins and the wine is very smooth. Therefore, they do not define them as orange. No winery is complete without a sparkling wine. Rosa and Antonio produce a joyful sparkling out of Chardonnay. Refermented in bottle, going under the name Fritz.

The labels catch the eye whit their elegant and modern design. They are designed by a local artist from Palermo, Rosa Lombardo, also known as “Rotellina” In the labels she interpretate the short but intense history of the wine production with the tradition of cultural mix.

In my opinion, Gauidoso is a wonderful example of the wonders and hidden gems of this part of Sicily.
